What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnotic trance for therapeutic purposes – it’s a safe, simple and drug-free technique to help people make changes. How does it work? We use hypnosis in therapy because it’s the natural learning process – it allows access to the subconscious mind where emotional and behavioural changes take place. Will I lose control in trance? No. The trance state is perfectly natural and occurs spontaneously – e.g., when we dream, hear some wonderful music, read a book, watch a film, meditate, daydream, or listen to a story. The whole purpose of hypnotherapy is to put you back in control of your own emotions & behaviours.

How long will the treatment take?

I practice a solution-focused hypnotherapy which means that we establish a timeframe from the start and work towards resolving situations as quickly as possible – often in just one session. Above all, our emphasis is on beneficial outcomes rather than problems or pathologies.

Is it complicated?

Not at all. I believe that clients are experts in their own lives, fundamentally aware of what they need; and that therapists are experts at managing change. Working together, we’re able to identify the changes the client wants and, drawing on the client’s own resources and experiences, make those beneficial changes happen.
